Description:
This one-semester course is an introduction to electricity and magnetism, optics, and modern physics at a first-year university level. The combination of PHYS 110 and PHYS 111, along with the corresponding laboratory courses PHYS 115 and PHYS 116, provides broad coverage of the field of physics. PHYS 110 should be taken before PHYS 111.

Assessment may include: Assignments, examinations.

Entry requirements:
PHYS 110 and a calculus course (such as MATH 101, 104, or 120). Completion of PHYS 115 is strongly recommended.

Media and methods employed: Printed text, tutorial support, TV.
Students require access to a scientific calculator. A programmable scientific calculator is not essential, but it will simplify the work enormously and is strongly recommended. A set of simple drawing instruments is also required.

Administrative information:
This is a 3 credit course. Normal completion time is four months, although students may take up to 25 weeks.
